Sun moves behind cloud with Q-Layer buy
Vendor adds to cloud computing offering with acquisition of Belgium player Q-Layer
Sun claims Q-Layer's expertise will enhance the storage vendor's offering
Server and storage vendor Sun Microsystems has bolstered its cloud offering by acquiring Belgium-based vendor Q-Layer.
The cloud computing company, which automates the deployment and management of both public and private clouds, will become part of Sun’s Cloud Computing business unit.
Last July, Sun announced that its utility computing operation would be transformed into a separate cloud business unit, led by David Douglas, senior vice president of Cloud Computing and chief sustainability officer of Sun Microsystems.
Douglas said: “Q-Layer's technology and expertise will enhance Sun’s offerings, simplifying cloud management and speeding application deployment.”
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
