IBM looking to Horizon

Big Blue on brink of signing new VAR deal

IBM is on the verge of signing a UK reseller agreement with the Horizon Technology Group.

CRN understands the VAR deal with Horizon, which also owns distributors Clarity Technology in the UK and Clarity Computer Distribution in Ireland, will focus on Big Blue's P-Series server range and its storage products.

Horizon may also resell IBM's X-Series and associated software, although these lines are already in open distribution.

Kevin Drew, managing director of Triangle said: "If Horizon were appointed it could be because of its strong Irish links and we know IBM has been looking to review its Irish strategy for some time."

Alan Crean, managing director of VAR Taurus, said the appointment does not worry him. "Horizon already has Sun and Hewlett-Packard on its vendor list, so adding IBM means it will be just selling the technology, and I don't think it'll be adding much value, such as additional IBM engineers or training centres,” he said.

Last week CRN reported that Big Blue was reviewing its Irish distribution strategy with the aim of appointing a second distributor for the region.

IBM declined to comment.
