Ex-Ingram Johnson tipped for top slot at Metrologie
Metrologie has completed its three-month search for a managing director as it is expected that Rob Johnson, former European VP of Ingram Micro?s enterprise computing division, will take up the post.
Sources close to Metrologie confirmed that Johnson would become MD of the distributor and was due to start next month. It is thought that Johnson?s appointment is subject to a restrictive covenance, which is affecting the position and start date.
Johnson left Ingram Micro under a cloud along with Jim Calderbank, UK general manager of the enterprise computing division (ECD), as there was speculation that the distributor was not hitting its UK sales targets. Several sources also claimed there was a considerable amount of Hewlett Packard kit in Ingram?s warehouses because the company was unable to shift it.
The ECD division was responsible for supplying HP?s high-end workstation and servers.
The position of MD has been vacant at Metrologie since the departure of Adrian Gale, who left the computer industry to return to his original career as a mining engineer (PC Dealer, 19 March).
According to several sources, Metrologie first approached Marlene Yeoman, its sales development manager, but it is understood that she was not prepared to take on the added responsibility.
A Metrologie representative confirmed the distributor was in the process of finding a managing director and claimed an announcement would be made within the next few weeks.
Johnson refused to comment.
