XFX cards put Ingram in the picture

Ingram Micro UK signs distribution deal with graphics card maker

Ingram Micro UK has bolstered its graphics offerings following a deal with XFX, the specialist graphics card and motherboard division of Hong Kong-based Pine Technology Group.

The deal represents the UK phase of a pan-European distribution deal that will see Ingram distribute the full range of XFX cards to UK system builders and resellers.

Ingram already distributes cards from key player Giga-Byte, but is aiming to capitalise on the surge in demand for high-end graphics in new systems.

XFX is one of the newer players in the market and, although not in the same league as Gainward and MSI, has been racking up a reputation as a maker of competitively priced, high-performance cards.

The company's use of a distinctive x-shaped box for its latest cards has helped to make it stand out in the crowded graphics card marketplace. The deal with Ingram is designed to boost its European presence.

John Fitzgerald, general manager, components division at Ingram Micro UK, said: "To maintain our position in such a competitive marketplace, it is essential that we continue to look for new high-quality products that complement our existing portfolio.

"The XFX graphic card range provides our customers with another exciting opportunity and allows them to further refine their individual needs."

Michael Chiu, chairman of the board of the Pine Group, said: "Pine has been active with its XFX branded product range in Europe since late last year, and today's agreement with Ingram Micro UK will enable us to reach our target customers in this key European market quickly and effectively."

Through Ingram, XFX will be offering a wide range of nVidia-based graphics cards. These will range from the latest GeForceFX range of 5200, 5600 and 5900 cards for entry-level users, enthusiast and high-performance gamers to more sedate offerings for the business-based system builder.

Chiu concluded: "Combining great products like the XFX graphic cards with the right go-to-market strategy of Ingram Micro's components division is a recipe for success that puts Pine Group in an excellent position to further increase its presence in Europe."
