Power plan to boost VARs

Legislation aimed at cutting power consumption could be a boon for resellers

Legislation to curb businesses’ power usage could provide lucrative channel opportunities, according to optimisation services specialist Intergence Systems.

The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, which will be introduced in April 2010, covers public and private organisations with annual electricity bills greater than £500,000.

It applies to all industries not currently covered by EU directives and allows companies to buy energy allowances.

A table, based primarily on carbon reduction, will rank performance.

Barry Viles, executive vice president of operations at Intergence, said: “There is a regulatory overload coming their way in an area they have not traditionally been measured in.

“We have customers with massive datacentres, which are big consumers of power. We can help them.”

Intergence chief executive Peter Job revealed his firm was set to boost revenue by 50 per cent this year.

“In the current climate, people are looking to manage their infrastructure,” he said.
