Distributors have given the first indication to resellers that they are likely to ship Intel's forthcoming Pentium 4 processor, as part of a package including Rambus memory.

Distributor Tech Data, known as Computer 2000 in the UK, has posted details of its Pentium 4 offerings on its secure site. Resellers planning to offer the chips will have to pay $900 for a 1.4Ghz part and $1050 for the 1.5Ghz variant. Both chips have 64Mb of PC800 Rambus memory. Computer 2000 has also priced Intel's D850Gb Garibaldi P4 motherboard at $210.

Paul Otellini, executive vice-president at Intel, said the company plans to ship the processor this month.

Intel also introduced its latest chipset for use in notebook PCs. Based on its Pentium III and Celeron processors, the 815EM chipset integrates core logic, graphics, and options to use external AGP4X or AGP2X controllers.

The chipset will support SpeedStep, the low-power technology featured in mobile Pentium III processors.
