EuroTech on Terratec alert

Firm signs up to distribute vendor's consumer product range to UK SMEs and home-users

EuroTech has become the sole UK distributor for multimedia and peripherals vendor Terratec Electronic.

The deal will see EuroTech supply Terratec's range of products to small-business and home users across the UK.

Heiko Meertz, managing director of Terratec, said: "We have worked with Eurotech for several years. Its strategy with the retail and channel partners that our products are best suited for made this appointment a natural step."

Christoph Muellers, Terratec's director of marketing for Europe, said: "Eurotech is a specialist distributor, and as such, is responsible for increasing the number of resellers selling the Terratec product range. We chose EuroTech because it has a successful track record in marketing brands in the UK market."

Muellers claimed that Terratec's product range is "diverse", and will appeal to anyone using Multimedia solutions, whether consumers, gamers or business users. The products include video-grabbing equipment, sound cards, TV and radio cards and home-entertainment systems. They are compatible with both desktop and laptop machines.

Simon Leech, managing director of EuroTech, told CRN: "Terratec has had products in the UK through a number of distributors before, but will now solely use us to distribute its products. We've had its products for about three years, but with this agreement we are expecting to grow its business significantly."

Leech added that he believes the Noxon Audio device is Terratec's key product. "The Noxon allows users to listen to music from their PC virtually anywhere over a wireless LAN [WLAN], regardless of whether the internet is accessed via a desktop PC, laptop or router," he said.

The Noxon wireless audio and internet radio device integrates into an existing WLAN and supports both the 802.11b and 802.11g standards. It connects to most audio and active speaker systems using a 3.5mm line-out connection for music and radio reception, and comes with an infrared remote control and AC adaptor.

It also features a specific media access control address and the common 128bit Wired Equivalent Privacy encryption method for added security. It has a built-in antenna, is firmware-upgradable via WLAN, and has a built-in backlit LCD for navigating tracks.
