INDICATORS - PC price bands

PC Dealer brings you this week's price band analysis, by channel, for the US, the UK, Germany and France.

Most of the desktops sold are in the $1,000 - $2,000 price range. Few of the PCs priced below $1,000 were bought by large companies in the corporate reseller channel. A third of dealers' sales are in the $500 - $1,000 range. This price band also accounts for one quarter of retail sales.

FRANCE

Inexpensive PCs, defined as FFr5,000-minus machines, are not present in the France indirect market. Forty per cent of the PCs sold in the retail channel were high-spec machines, above FFr10,000.

Corporate resellers sold mainly low-spec, low-priced PCs in the FFr5,000 - FFr10,000 range.

A quarter of dealers' sales were in the FFr10,000 - FFr15,000.

Branded PCs as displayed by major multiple retailers were tracked at a product level. The results show how brand shelf space has evolved.

Shelf space values are calculated as a percentage of the total shelf space occupied by those brands. Only branded PCs were included.
