Copycats a-go-go with Ultera's Multimaster

US storage controller manufacturer Ultera Systems has launched CD-R Multimaster, a CD-Rom mastering system that records up to five CDs at once.

The product consists of a high-speed controller with separate internal Scsi buses for each CD. Ultera expects financial institutions to use the product for making backup copies of transaction files. It can also be used for software distribution, product catalogues or image file sharing.

The manufacturer said the product needs no special software or drivers as hosts see it as a single Scsi device.

The OEM price for Multimaster is $4,000, and it is available from Ultera.
