APS upgrades Edinburgh hub after deal win

Printing VAR spruces up offices after sealing multi-million pound Scottish government MPS contract

APS Group has spent some £500,000 on its facility in Edinburgh and upped the number of staff after sealing a two-year, multimillion-pound deal with the Scottish government.

Allan Doyle, managing director of APS Scotland, said that the managed print services company had been able to invest significantly in its infrastructure as a direct result of the contract win, which was announced back in March.

“As a result of this new contract we have secured a number of new jobs in Scotland, both at APS and among our SME supplier partners,” said Doyle.

“Our aim is to provide the best possible service to our clients, and we are very much looking forward to delivering on our promises to the Scottish government and its collaborative partners.”

APS’ 26,000sq ft document management and operations centre comprises account management, publishing and bibliographic management, digital printing and production, digital copying, scanning and printing on demand, storage, and design and artwork studios.

Two senior appointments – Andrew Chrystal as business development director and Andy Logan as project manager – have been added to the 46 employees who were transferred from RR Donnelley, the incumbent supplier.

Other hires will be made from the regional labour market. The contract, thought to be worth about £150m, may be extended after the initial two years.

According to Public Contracts Scotland, the Scottish public sector is continuing to seek more efficient ways to deliver services, aiming to exceed the 3.1 per cent savings it achieved in the 2008/09 financial year.
