• Digital will introduce changes to its services business on 1 July, which will include the centralisation of services for its multinational customers, in response to pressure from customers wanting more control over their relationships.
• Web TV Networks, recently acquired by Microsoft, says it has struck deals with subsidiaries of Hitachi and Mitsubishi to market devices based on its TV-based internet access design.
• Toshiba and 10 other major computer hardware and software vendors have agreed to to standardise their specifications for mobile network computers, using a new format based on the network computer reference profile, by September this year.
• IBM is cutting the size of its networking products line, scrapping its 8224 stackable Ethernet hub in favour of the 8237 and the 3172 front-end processor for the 2216 edge router.
• SGS-Thomson will enter the increasingly crowded low-end PC market with the release of an X86 processor this summer.
• AMD is to slash prices of its MMX equivalent chips, following price cuts announced by Intel, in accordance with its policy of selling at least 25 per cent below Intel?s prices.
• Motorola Computer Group, the six-month-old Mac cloner, intends to modify its existing channel strategy and have a formalised worldwide channel strategy for its flagship Stramax Mac clone within 90 days.
