The rest, as they say, is history

Fifteen years ago this month Charles and Diana were on honeymoon, unemployment topped three million and Shakin' Stevens was at number one with Green Door. Oh, and the original IBM PC was born. Boasting 16k Ram, a green monochrome screen and a little known operating system called DOS, the system unit went on sale in the US priced at $1265. CRN's sister publication Personal Computer World wrote at the time "the only thing missing at the moment is a wide selection of packages, but I rather feel that the whole world and its grandmother will be frantically trying to fill that particular gap." The rest is history. Happy Birthday IBM PC.
