Rapier Systems completes OmniSwitch installation

District Council will have free VoIP internal calls with VAR's Alcatel network system

Alcatel partner Rapier Systems has completed its installation of a converged network for voice, video and data at Wansbeck District Council in the north-east of England.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, saw Rapier Systems install Alcatel’s OmniSwitch network infrastructure technology integrated with the OmniPCX Enterprise IP-PBX phone system and Alcatel’s OmniTouch contact centre solution. As a result, Wansbeck’s 500 employees will have access to free voice over IP internal calls.

Rapier also created a licenced wireless network for the council.

David Oliver, senior communications engineer at Rapier Systems, said: “Wansbeck is continually looking at ways to improve its interaction with the community. The new network will give it a platform on which to deploy further services or applications, as and when they are required.”
