Ipswitch price rise with update
Vendor aims to lure customers from MS Exchange with revamped range
Email software vendor Ipswitch has put up its prices and updated its product line to entice SME customers away from Microsoft Exchange.
Last week the firm replaced its Imail Server product with the Collaboration Suite, which includes schedule and calendar sharing for Microsoft Outlook users and instant messaging. It also introduced an update to its networking monitoring tool, now called WhatsUP Professional.
Roger Greene, president of Ipswitch, said higher prices reflect the extra features in its product to capture SME customers that would otherwise be forced to buy Microsoft Exchange.
"As the price points go up it's becoming more appealing to more resellers and more of a solution sale," he said.
Despite the price rises, Greene claimed his software is still cheaper than that of Microsoft.
Martin Langham, email and collaboration analyst at Bloor Research, said: "A characteristic of many non-Microsoft email providers is that they can run more email on fewer servers and that gives quite a lot of savings in terms of licence costs and so on."
