Steljes agrees to Sony split

Former partners part ways after projection distributor review

Sony has split with Steljes following a review of its projector distributors.

The move leaves Imago, Midwich and Micro Peripherals on board, but Sony revealed it was still analysing its distributors and admitted there are possibly one or two new signings in the pipeline.

Raj Pandya, general manager for business-to-business channels at Sony, told CRN: “Our projector channel is split into two areas: volume and high-end/installation. We want to grow our projector volume market share in the UK by three per cent this year and Steljes was one of our distributors that we hoped would help us achieve this.

However, since Steljes’ management restructure, it has moved its focus away from projectors, so we have agreed to part company.”

Ian Goodhind, group product marketing director at Steljes, said: “We’re no longer working with Sony, but are not moving away from selling stand-alone projectors.”

Stuart Mizon, business manager at Midwich, said: “Sony was initially attracted to Steljes by its strength in education, but we understand Steljes did not deliver on the volume promised. We’ve been selling Sony projectors since 2005 and remain committed to the entire range.”
