kVault seeks resellers for Exchange archiving tool

Durlacher subsidiary kVault Software is looking for resellers to sell its Enterprise Vault software that it has bought from Compaq.

Designed to automatically archive Microsoft Exchange data in a central database, which prevents it from jamming mail servers, the Enterprise Vault software helps businesses locate archived email and other unstructured corporate data.

The data can be searched and archived data can be retrieved by users.

kVault has recruited 22 software engineers to develop the product, version 2.0 of which was released last week.

Edward Forwood, chief executive of kVault, said the company has signed a distribution agreement with Compaq and is actively looking for resellers across Europe and the US. He said kVault hopes to sign 300 major and regional resellers.

Tony Redmond, director of the applied Microsoft technologies group at Compaq professional services, said: "Given the amount of email in circulating, a great deal of knowledge is contained in messages that are managed personally and never visible to the organisation.

"Exchange systems are often bursting at the seams because individual users resist deleting anything and administrators spend much of their time fighting system overload. The Enterprise Vault steps in and removes older messages, storing them centrally," Redmond added.

Primarily designed to work with Microsoft Exchange message stores, connectors will soon be available to link to other information repositories. A version will also be made available for use by messaging application service providers.
