Brand-Rex dumps Mayflex over 'conflicting objectives'
Split comes on heels of distributor's decision to sign up with rival cabling vendor CommScope
Come undone: Brand-Rex has severed ties with Mayflex
Cabling vendor Brand-Rex has dumped Mayflex shortly after the distributor forged an alliance with fierce rival CommScope.
CommScope, through its Systimax brand, Brand-Rex and number-three outfit ADC Krone have traditionally commanded nearly 50 per cent of the UK structured cabling market between them, according to figures from consultancy BSRIA.
Apparently angered by Mayflex’s decision to begin working with a key competitor, Brand-Rex has removed the distributor from its line-up, citing “conflicting objectives”.
Brand-Rex stressed the decision would not affect its installation partners, which it will now match up with its remaining distributors.
In a thinly veiled sideswipe at its ex-distributor, Brand-Rex marketing director Ian Wilkie said the vendor wanted to focus on “supportive partnerships”.
“The relationship with Mayflex has changed during recent years and we now have different and sometimes conflicting objectives,” he said.
“Customers who source their Brand-Rex products through channels other than Mayflex will not be affected in any way,” says Wilkie. “They will continue to get the high quality of supply and service they expect from Brand-Rex.”
Systimax has traditionally been the UK market leader in structured cabling. However, Brand-Rex claimed it has recently gained market share and is now the “number one structured cabling supplier in the UK market”.
