HP takes aim at Sun customers

Vendor targets disgruntled Sun clients with Sun Complete Care programme

Datacentre battle: HP is trying to lure twitchy Sun customers to make the move to Integrity

HP and its resellers are targeting twitchy Sun server and storage customers with a new end-to-end migration programme.

Coming three months after Oracle announced its acquisition of Sun, the Sun Complete Care programme offers a range of services, support programmes and financial incentives to lure customers to make the leap across to an HP platform.

HP, which is the world’s largest server vendor by unit shipments, claimed that many Sun customers are yearning for a more stable technology partner. They are also paying up to 80 per cent more in total cost of ownership (TCO) for Sun SPARC servers than HP Integrity customers, it claimed.

Sun Complete Care includes free migration and TCO assessments, deferred payments of up to 90 days on new HP leases, and zero-per cent lease offers until 31 October.

Customers will also be offered the choice of 15 per cent trade-in credit or HP’s green disposal service, if they replace Sun SPARC servers with HP Integrity or ProLiant DL785 servers.

Paul Gottsegen, HP’s vice president of integrated marketing, enterprise servers and storage, claimed Sun customers want to work with a vendor offering a long-term roadmap and a “solid future”.

“By switching to HP, Sun customers will gain peace of mind, along with significant technology and return-on-investment advantages,” he said.
