Software Plus hit by Gem court order

WINDING UP ORDER

Software Plus, the last remaining major independent games multiple, will be forced to seek protection from the courts or cease trading after Gem issued a winding up order on the 22-strong chain on Friday 4 May.

According to industry sources Gem issued its petition after Software Plus failed to pay debts understood to be up to u100,000 to the Harlow based distributor. Gem played down the debts claiming insurance cover of 80%.

Sources believe Centresoft will be worst stung if Software Plus goes down with outstanding debts of up to u400,000, but the distributor has some insurance cover.
