April sales up for Acer

Notebook vendor sees year on year growth, but sequential decline

Acer has reported consolidated sales of $667.44m for April, representing an increase of 11.9 per cent from a year earlier, but a decline on March's figure of $990.29m.

The PC vendor said several factors had made April an unusual month for the global PC industry. Seasonal holidays, international currency fluctuation and other economic changes around the world had influenced the industry and made the slow season more apparent.

However Acer said it had several aggressive business plans in place for May and June, and was confident that revenue for the second quarter would be "close to the first quarter".

During the first quarter of 2006, Acer registered growth of 45.5 per cent in the global PC market compared to Q1 2005, according to figures recently published by analyst Gartner.

“We are delighted by the first quarter results," said Gianfranco Lanci, president of Acer. “Empowering Technology, new projects for home entertainment, and integrated wireless connectivity are no longer far-off objectives but evolving realities that demand continuous updates. Our research and development centres generate a constant stream of innovative proposals aimed at bringing technology closer to the user."
