Stac shifts away from consumers

Software company Stac has revamped its channel model as it moves away from consumer to high-end network products, signing Stream International and Memory Technology as premier partners last week.

Eren Hussein, Stac sales manager for northern Europe, said the signings were the first of many. He hopes to add Computacenter, Lantec, SCC and Infoproducts, saying that Stac will give them support packages as part of the signings.

'We've repositioned the company and are moving away from the consumer model,' Hussein said. 'Our goal is to work with our solution providers and this is a very different approach.'

Resellers would be given dedicated lines, he said, and offered other incentives. 'We are breaking out of the consumer mould into the Var and enterprise world.'

That won't stop Stac from using distribution for its lower priced packages such as Reach Out, he said. 'We still use people like Action for that sort of product,' said Hussein.

Alan Jones, MD at Memory, said Stac's solution provider programme will allow it to improve the level of service it offers customers.

And Simon Latimer, marketing programmes manager at Stream, said: 'Premier partnership fits well with our current solution services offerings.'
