Avaya unveils UC tips

Senior managers reveal the key to selling unified communications

Two members of the changing cast of Avaya’s senior management team have earmarked vertical expertise as the key to selling unified communications (UC).

Avaya’s chief executive Lou D’Ambrosio recently stepped down for medical reasons, and there has also been speculation in the channel that Avaya is on the brink of unveiling a new EMEA head.

Speaking prior to D’Ambrosio’s departure, Christopher Formant, who joined Avaya as president of global services earlier this month, said: “We are putting together the best and most agile management team in the industry.”

Formant said his background as a consultant gave him “a different ability and a different view” that would prove beneficial to Avaya. He revealed the vendor would target its UC products at specific verticals. “We are bringing in vertical experts for particular solutions,” he said.

Avaya’s president of global communications solutions, Stuart Wells, highlighted financial services, government, healthcare, hospitality and retail as key markets for his firm. He said: “We are still under-serving these markets. UC is about productivity gains, cost reduction and sophisticated vertical solutions.”
