Three Axed in Overhaul of CU Services Division
Computers Unlimited (CU) is continuing its drive to cut costs after overhauling its service department with the loss of three jobs.
The distributor has made three people redundant from the services department and has moved three existing services staff into other sections. Those let go included services manager Trevor Olley and service administration manager Chris Joyce.
Justin Anderson, CU marketing director, said: ?Essentially, the service department has been removed, leaving just a skeleton.? He added that the decision to rationalise the services department was a response to the increasing trend in the industry towards outsourcing of services.
?This allows us to focus on services with a higher value, with an increasing focus on information,? said Anderson.
CU has invested #1 million in its internal infrastructure, including the recent installation of a workflow server.
The restructure follows Computers Unlimited?s various attempts to reduce its staff numbers. Two weeks ago, the distributor made five people redundant from its operations and finance department. CU has also lost six other senior staff in the past six months (PC Dealer, 4 June).
Anderson said that the restructure would enable the company to focus on different core markets, including digital imaging, internet and multimedia publishing.
