Handspring cartwheels into corporate space
Vendor adds Pro and Neo products to its Visor range
Handspring has added the Pro and Neo products to its Visor range of handheld computers. The company claimed that, with 16Mb of memory, the Visor Pro has twice the storage capacity of other Palm operating system handhelds.
However, Steve Muttram, managing director of Palm distributor Portable Add-ons, said: "[Handspring] now has a corporate product, but success in this market is not just about selling devices. They will need channel partners that can manage, secure and connect those products."
The new entry-level machine, the Neo, is 50 per cent faster than the Visor Deluxe. The two new products feature the Springboard expansion slot, which enables the devices to connect to over 60 complementary products.
Joe Sipher, vice president of product marketing at Handspring, said: "With Springboard modules now available, people can customise the products for applications such as voice and data communications with the VisorPhone, and wireless Ethernet connectivity with Xircom's SpringPort module."
The US vendor is simultaneously introducing a new Springboard module, the eyemodule2 digital camera, which will complement these products.
