Big Blue adds its support to JavaBeans
IBM plans to outline the way its Java-based San Francisco application templates will support Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) at the JavaOne conference in San Francisco next month.
Big Blue is expected to announce that it will replace the current foundation or plumbing layer of San Francisco with the EJB object model over the next 12 months.
The company will also announce its intention to standardise on EJB across its entire middleware and transaction-based product line, which includes CICS, Encina and DSOM-based Component Broker Connector, to provide a consistent programming model.
IBM could achieve this in two ways. It could develop an application container that would either run inside or on top of existing servers such as CICS, or it could build a separate application server based on offerings from third parties such as Gemstone or WebLogic.
Sun is also expected to release version 1 of EJB at JavaOne.
