Tatung teams up with Avnet
Firms agree distribution arrangement
Avnet Computing Components is moving into the server business following a distribution agreement with manufacturer Tatung.
The vendor launched in the UK in September last year and is aiming to go head-to-head with Dell and IBM in the server space.
Mark Burnett, channel manager at Tatung, said: "We chose Avnet because it has good exposure in the components market. Our products are primarily aimed at corporate customers and SMEs, and eventually we want to build up to be a tier-one vendor."
Tatung appointed Microtronica as its first distributor last year and said at the time it wanted to appoint two more.
Avnet will sell Tatung's blade servers, rack mount servers and storage products alongside CPUs, memory and hard drives.
Mark Norton, server business manager at Avnet, said: "I see Tatung's products fitting in the gap between the tier-one vendors and system integrators."
