BMC Software entered the SME space for the first time last week with the launch of a suite of systems management products built specifically for small businesses.

Nick McEvoy, UK channel manager at BMC, said: “Our traditional business has been in the enterprise space. The issues that face large enterprises are typically the same for SMEs, but SMEs have more limited resources and budgets. We decided to create an offering that fits SME users and is tailored to their needs. It is not a repackaged version of our existing enterprise software. It is new software designed specifically for SMEs.”

The new SME products are: BMC IT Systems Management Express; BMC Service Desk Express Suite
(formerly Magic Service Desk Suite) version 9.0; and BMC Service Desk Express Small Business Edition.

BMC has selected six resellers across EMEA for the new SME products. In the UK, BMC has chosen two VARs: Fusion and Ibertek.

“These are our initial partners for the SME space, but going forward we will look to bring on new SME partners. We want to make sure the offering is right before we take on more partners,” McEvoy said.

In December, BMC told CRN that it was looking to recruit additional partners in the UK to help it to grow its Business Service Management (BSM) strategy (CRN, 19 December).

“BSM is our key vision. The SME space has been on our agenda for a while. We can now offer BSM to SMEs,” McEvoy added.

Mark Lyttle, managing director of Fusion, said: “We’ve been a BMC Remedy partner for 10 years. Our focus has been on the enterprise space, but in the past six months we have begun to focus on the SME
space. The new SME range from

BMC will help us to grow further in this new market. SMEs have the same problems and want the same types of solutions as larger companies.”
