HP seals 3Com deal

Hardware giant completes $2.7bn acquisition of networking vendor

HP has completed its acquisition of 3Com

Hardware giant HP has completed its acquisition of networking vendor 3Com, having announced its intention to buy the firm five months ago.

The vendor said the deal, worth approximately $2.7bn (£1.7bn), would add weight to its HP ProCurve product portfolio, expand its Ethernet switching offerings and strengthen its market position in China.

Through the deal, HP will also acquire 3Com’s TippingPoint portfolio, providing it with a foothold in the network security space.

Speaking at the time of the initial announcement, David Donatelli, executive vice president and general manager of enterprise servers and networking at HP, said the acquisition would accelerate the execution of the firm’s “Converged Infrastructure” strategy.

He added: “By combining HP ProCurve offerings with 3Com’s solutions, we will enable customers to build a next-generation network infrastructure that supports customer needs from the edge of the network to the heart of the datacentre.”
