InTechnology moves to focus on networking

Distie aims to broaden horizons

Pan-European distributor InTechnology is hoping to shake up the market by broadening its horizons into the networking arena.

The firm said it will be selling networking equipment by the next quarter.

Bryn Sage, sales director at InTechnology, told CRN the firm would build on its existing skills base. "There are no plans to acquire for the push because we think we can build it organically," he said. "We have a lot of networking skills to leverage."

InTechnology, which also has a managed services business, acquired distributor Allasso to move from its traditional storage roots into the security arena last year.

Scott Dobson, UK country manager at networking distributor DCM, said the move is a natural step. "Big firms are looking to consolidate data centres, and this makes networking products far more important," he said.

The news follows InTechnology's results for its financial year ended 31 March.

The firm posted a 42 per cent increase in turnover from £156.9m last year to £224m this year. Profit was £1.6m before interest, tax and amortisation, compared with a loss of £2.6m in 2003.

"It has been a tough few years but we have maintained our investments in new products, services and people," said Sage. "The distribution margins are stable and the managed service business is profitable in its own right."

Ian Morris, founder of security distributor equIP, said that InTechnology's results are exceptional, but added: "We don't really see Allasso, apart from in some NetScreen deals."
