Clarity restored with StorageTek agreement

Irish storage distributor Clarity Distribution has expanded its vendor relationships through a partnership with StorageTek

Irish storage distributor Clarity Distribution has expanded its vendor relationships through a partnership with StorageTek, following the vendor’s recent $4.1bn acquisition by Sun Microsystems.

Clarity will distribute StorageTek’s tape automation, virtual storage and storage management products to its reseller network across Ireland.

Adrian Foley, managing director of Clarity Distribution, said he welcomed the opportunity to partner with StorageTek. “Working together with StorageTek will dramatically expand our data-storage offerings to our reseller base,” he said.

Paul McCord, channel manager at StorageTek Ireland, said: “Clarity has a strong track record in providing its customers with best-of-breed solutions and that ability is now significantly enhanced with StorageTek solutions.”

Clarity already has Irish distribution agreements with a number of high-profile vendors, including Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Fujitsu.

Sun’s acquisition of StorageTek in June boosted its channel focus by enabling it to take advantage of StorageTek’s existing channel links. Hamish MacArthur, chief executive of analyst MacArthur Stroud International, said the acquisition will help to further enhance the vendor’s focus in Ireland.

“As the acquisition hasn’t gone through yet, this can be viewed simply as StorageTek extending its reach and footprint into Ireland. It is extending its coverage through Irish resellers and some will see that as very positive because it enables them to target users from the SME up to the enterprise,” he said.
