CA changes name and looks to cloud

Vendor becomes CA Technologies and reaffirms commitment to channel partners at conference launch

Cloud control: CA is committed to the cloud

CA has changed its name to CA Technologies to help it move to the next phase of its development.

The vendor quietly slipped in the announcement at the start of its CA World conference at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas. The name change, claimed the vendor is to demonstrate its 'commitment to managing and securing IT environments' and to 'deliver more flexible IT services to customers'.

Bill McCracken, chief executive of CA, said: “The name CA Technologies acknowledges both our past and points to our future as a leader in delivering the solutions that will revolutionise the way IT powers business agility. We are executing on a bold strategy to delight our customers with unprecedented levels of IT speed and flexibility.”

The software vendor kicked off its conference with a keynote from EMEA head Kevin Tumulty, who revealed the firm intends to ‘keep investing’ in Europe and that partners played a key role in that investment.

Tumulty, whose official title is senior vice president of Europe at CA, said the firm had recently segmented its partners into three different categories: Alliance, Global Service Providers and Managed Service Partners/Channel Partners.

“Organisations that may have been resellers of our technology, delivering turnkey solutions, have actually changed to a managed service model,” he said. “We have been taking on more staff in each of these areas to help us understand how these organisations go to market and also because it means we do a better job of working with them and helping their clients get more value [out of CA products].

Tumulty also unveiled the vendors Go Live with CA strategy, aimed at drawing new customers into the CA fold and also helping them to extract more value from the products they do buy.

“We are investing in Europe and we see Europe continuing to be a growth market for CA,” he said.

Bjorne Rasmussen, chief technology officer for Europe at CA, outlined the vendor’s cloud commitment.

“For us the cloud is about business value to customers. Using whatever technology they have to provide agility, flexibility and doing more with less,” he said. "CA is very committed to the cloud. Cloud is a major shift in how IT will be consumed in the years to come. We are here to support that."
