Hugh Symons offers Freedom2:connect

Vendor launches packaged mobile data products for resellers

Hugh Symons Mobile Computing is hoping to take the headache out of building complex mobile solutions by launching packaged mobile data products for resellers.

"Most resellers are specialists and mobile data is not their core business. We see them selling a solution and leaving things such as hotswaps, product returns and provisioning to us," said Mark Robinson, business manager at Hugh Symons.

"It's easy to invest in laptops, PDAs and the like, but using them is not always easy."

The scheme, known as Freedom2:connect, will offer pre-packaged offerings including mobile email, lone worker security, GPS tracking, field delivery and service management, mobile payment and field surveys.

They will be offered on a syndicated basis, with potential ongoing revenues for resellers.

Robinson said the firm had looked for applications that fitted with devices.

"Remote email will be successful," he said. "Lone Worker will be driven by new health and safety guidelines from the EU and field service will be strong as well. There are about 8,000 companies in the UK with over 100 service personnel."

But Steve Alderson, managing director of Cognito, which also offers mobile data solutions, warned: "In this kind of relationship I think both [resellers and distributors] have to provide part of the solution. That way there is a more balanced margin split."
