Pointsec unveils managed service offering

Vendor wants to increase it SME market penetration

Disk encryption vendor Pointsec is looking to increase its SME market penetration with its latest managed service offering.

The vendor has partnered with services integrator Alertsec to offer full disk encryption on all laptop devices as an online managed service. Firms pay for the service on a monthly basis.

Mark Peters, EMEA channel director at Pointsec, said: “It is not just the enterprise-level marketplace that has important data stored in laptops, but the only way to reach the smaller firms is through some sort of managed service provision.”

Peters said the managed service is ideal for firms with between five and 25 employees that have limited IT resources to hand. He said the firm is hoping to roll the service out through additional channel partners, and is busy recruiting new resellers.

“Our offering will work alongside other solutions provided as a managed service by resellers, such as anti-virus and anti-spam, to offer a layered approach to security,” he said.

Magnus Ahlberg, managing director of Alertsec, said: “We have seen a huge demand from smaller organisations and professionals, such as doctors, lawyers, accountancy practices, insurance and retail companies, which are looking to ensure that when their staff are out and about all mobile data is strongly encrypted.

“Pointsec’s service is ideal because customers don’t have to educate their support staff or invest in any infrastructure."
