Logicalis debuts 'Pay as you Grow' model
Integrator unveils new pricing model to overcome financial overhead and complexity of migrating to Linux Open Source/System z
Integrator Logicalis has launched a 'Pay as you Grow' pricing model to overcome the financial drawbacks and complexity of migrating to a Linux Open Source/System z environment.
Launched in light of the current economic climate, the linear pricing model is designed to provide the benefits of the mainframe, but without the upfront investment.
Martin Boakes, System z specialist at Logicalis, said: “Combining Logicalis’ System z expertise and utilising Linux O/S for a maximum capacity environment, the model provides a proven way to save hard cash and increase business efficiency during tight times.
“Unlike alternative consolidation options that businesses have previously been restricted to, such as Unix and Intel, Linux O/S offers far superior scalability and critically, has no multi-licensing charge. This enables organisations to slash their licensing costs, saving on software and maintenance costs as well as the physical running costs such as power, cooling and floor space.”
The model will enable users to migrate the consolidation of their Linux server estate onto System z.
The packaged solution is Linux-only enabled and aimed at users with more than 100 images. The enterprise Linux server is designed for organisations with between 100 and 2,000 servers.
Boakes added: “The enterprise Linux server on System z is a perfect solution for organisations looking to consolidate large server estates.
“However, the cost of entry and perceived complexity has often been a barrier to businesses looking to exploit its benefits. Our Pay as you Grow pricing model removes these issues.”
Chris Gabriel, marketing and solutions director at Logicalis, said: “System z typifies everything the IT department is trying to achieve today: efficiency, dependability and high utilisation.
“This solution is about providing all the benefits of Linux consolidation, without the financial risk. By creating a migratory path, organisations can take their first steps onto the mainframe efficiency ladder, growing the benefits over time.”
David Wright, IBM UK System z platform leader, said: “IBM is pleased to be working with Logicalis to provide clients with an incredibly efficient consolidation platform that is very affordable. There's no comparison when you consider the legendary reliability and security of System z.”
