Ideal splits into two divisions

Distributor to concentrate on enterprise and volume

Storage distributor Ideal Hardware is splitting its operations into two divisions, concentrating on the enterprise space and the volume business.

Ideal Enterprise Solutions will deal with all of the company's high-end, more complex storage solutions, said Mark Walker, Ideal's enterprise solutions director. The remainder of the company will form Ideal Distribution and will cover the volume part of the business.

Walker said the company has changed its business model as a sign of the changing times in the channel.

"We realised that only by having separate sales staff who aren't diverted by a dissimilar volume business will we get more traction in the enterprise space. We have seen growth in the enterprise unit, so we must keep investing in it," he explained.

Both units will have separate sales and technical capabilities, which the company claimed should benefit its resellers.

"As our resellers start to move into the enterprise they will need a greater degree of focus to assist them. Now there will be two dedicated groups to specialise for them," Walker said.
