BakBone joins forces with Sun

Vendor's NetVault backup product suite to be sold through Sun's direct salesforce

Storage software vendor BakBone has joined forces with Sun in a strategic technology licensing and distribution agreement to offer a combined product to both vendors’ channels.

As a result of the deal, BakBone’s NetVault backup product suite will be sold through Sun’s direct salesforce and its network of distributors and VARs. The two firms claimed the agreement furthers the existing relationship between the duo, which began with BakBone’s support for the Solaris operating system.

Nigel Dessau, vice-president, storage marketing and business operations at Sun, said: “Offering BakBone’s NetVault technology as part of Sun’s family of enterprise storage solutions represents tremendous value for our customers. Together, Sun and BakBone are working to provide our customers with complementary enterprise-class storage management technologies.”

Jim Johnson, chief executive of BakBone, said: “This agreement marks a milestone for BakBone. It reinforces customer acceptance of our heterogeneous data-protection solutions while extending BakBone’s global footprint into Sun’s installed base. We are proud to deliver our technology to the Sun market, and to make it easier for customers to protect existing Sun storage investments and simplify data protection.”
