Buying Solutions winners unveiled

Dell among the firms that did not make the grade for £6bn framework, according to leaked list

12 firms made it onto Lot 1 and 2, with 10 making it onto Lot 3

Buying Solutions yesterday told resellers whether or not they have made it onto its new £6bn government IT procurement framework.

A list of the successful candidates was leaked to CRN this morning, with Dell among the contenders not to make the grade for any of the three Lots.

Firms had until 26 January to submit their bids and there will now be a short cooling-off period during which unsuccessful candidates can appeal. The final list is set to be formally unveiled on 22 February.

Microsoft LAR Bytes is among the other high-profile omissions as its name was not listed in Lot 3, which covers commodity software.

Market giants Computacenter, SCC and Insight made it on to all three Lots but the list of successful candidates also included some new faces, such as Manchester-based Cisco partner ANS.

Lots 1 and 2, which cover desktop hardware and infrastructure hardware, respectively, were both contested by 18 firms, with 12 making it onto the final list. Lot 3 was contested by 14 firms, with 10 given the nod.

One source said that the high number of successful candidates might force firms involved to compromise on quality of service.

“Last time it was carved up between five or six resellers," said the source. "The list is quite large and the impact for the individual businesses will be low-margin and the quality of service for Buying Solutions could possibly suffer as a result.”
