Emutex reaches across Irish sea

Limerick-based start-up PBX vendor eyes UK channel success

Irish eyes: Emutex is looking to forge ties with resellers, ISPs and carriers in the UK

Emutex is preparing to hit the UK channel and claims its SIP-based PBX has the technological edge over those of more-established rivals.

The Limerick-based vendor was founded three years ago and last year began developing the VMX, an IP PBX powered by proprietary software.

The system can support up to 24 extensions, and according to Emutex managing director John Twomey, it is aimed at companies with up to 15 employees.

“[Cisco-owned] Linksys is trying to morph its technology into modern technology by adapting it to IP,” he said. “We have built ours from the ground up and it is the first [PBX] that has been purpose built for SIP.”

Work is already underway on higher-end models and Twomey said he wants to have 30 employees working in research and development within a few years.

Emutex is currently courting UK partners, including resellers, ISPs and carriers, and, ultimately Twomey hopes to set up shop in this country.

“We are looking at IT resellers, they do not necessarily need any background in telephony,” said Twomey. “We are coming in with technology that they are quite familiar with already.”
