Phion aims to build UK name in tough market
Security vendor aims to build reputation in the UK
Phion is said to have strong security technology
Seven months after touching down in this country, network security vendor Phion has stressed the importance of building the brand’s UK reputation.
UK and Ireland country manager Shameem Ibrahim told CRN he had signed up eight VARs since March and hoped to add about another 15 over time. “Signing some of the large integrators would be great, but it is a challenging market and a challenging time and they are cutting back on vendors,” he said.
Ibrahim also revealed that his original plan to recruit a distributor had been put on hold due to the preferences of Phion’s resellers. “In central Europe, it is the technology rather than the brand,” he said. “In the UK brand recognition is important and we are building that – it takes money and it takes time.”
Chief technical officer Klaus Gheri added: “We are a top player in mainland Europe, but in a new market it is always difficult. Our references might be excellent but they are far away.”
Jeff Orr, managing director of VAR Stack Computer Solutions, claimed Phion had the tools to make a splash in the UK market. “The technology is strong and it is prepared to spend in support of partners,” he said. “We are already engaged with a number of opportunities.”
