Chameleon shows off its true colours

Netmanage has reinforced its commitment to being a complete cross-platform intranet vendor with the release of its Network File System (NFS) product for Mac operating system customers.

Chameleon NFS for Mac OS expands the functionality of corporate intranets by adding NFS client capability to the existing Mac OS intranet desktop suite.

The product combines host connectivity, remote access solutions, Internet access, email and also allows users to share files over cross-platform networks.

The Chameleon NFS client allows users to mount an NFS server via the chooser bar, which once mounted appears like any other volume on the desktop.

Peter Coppola, senior product manager for Netmanage's Mac line, said: 'We have added the best available solution to facilitate cross-platform file sharing on an intranet.

'The applications eliminate the need to mix application vendors to support host connectivity, X Windows server capability, cross-platform file sharing, Internet access, email and remote access.'

The firm has said it will deliver six additional applications to its Mac OS customers by the end of the year.

Netmanage has also expanded the workgroup functionality of its Ecco Pro product. The Ecco Workgroup Administrator, which is available on the Web via Netmanage's Ecco Workgroup Centre, is designed for multiple Ecco workgroup directories on the same file server to share group scheduling.

The firm claims Ecco's folder architecture allows for easy organisation of sophisticated workgroup schedules by enabling peer-to-peer based scheduling, document management and file sychronisation through an easy interface.

Carl Peede, vice president of worldwide marketing at Netmanage, said: 'Ecco for Workgroups offers corporate users a powerful yet cost-effective way to access mission-critical information, both within and between their functional areas.'
