Gresham Computing has installed a new chief executive after the shock departures of several senior staff members, but uncertainity still surrounds its future.

Andrew Walton-Green, who joined Gresham from Deloitte & Touche, where he was director, replaced Bill Simpson. Walton-Green is the fourth chief executive in the past two years. He faces a tough job trying to turn around the company's fortunes.

One analyst said: "The strategic review undoubtedly called for the selling off of elements of the company that Simpson deemed as irredeemable. Gresham is run as five separate chiefdoms and that has not been a clever long-term strategy."

He added that the crisis at Gresham would affect the company's customer relations as "companies in trouble never do very well".
