Top Bass ready to go global in Toshiba market

Andy Bass, assistant general manager for marketing of Toshiba UK's PC division, is set to move further up the Japanese firm's corporate ladder after accepting a worldwide marketing position.

Speaking exclusively to PC Dealer, Bass said he will soon leave the UK arm after more than seven years, to take up an unspecified senior position within the worldwide marketing team. Although no definite timescale has been set, it is thought that he will take up the appointment by early next year and that he will be resident in the US.

Commenting on the appointment, MD of Toshiba UK Alan Thompson said Bass was effectively the marketing director in the UK already, taking on responsibilities far beyond his job title.

'There comes a point when someone with that level of experience and calibre moves on to bigger challenges,' he added.

Thompson confirmed that there will be advertisements in national newspapers for Bass' position, along with other vacancies. Sarah Herschel, the division's marketing communications manager, is leaving Toshiba for Germany, where she intends to set up an agency with her husband. Her position will also be advertised.

In addition, Justin Clarke has left Fujitsu ICL to join the Toshiba PC division as desktop product marketing manager.
