Mackay leaves Ingram to join reseller camp
Ingram Micro has lost the incumbent general manager of its retail division, Bill Mackay, who left last week after four years at the distributor.
Sandy Scott, Ingram MD, confirmed that Mackay had left the distributor last week but refused to say where he was going. He indicated Mackay was going to a small reseller.
Observers claimed that Mackay would continue to stay in the IT business but would take up a position using his retail expertise.
Scott said: 'Under Bill's leadership, the retail division has demonstrated tremendous profitable growth. We wish him every success.'
As a result of Mackay's departure, Ingram has charged Matt McDowell, senior commercial manager, with temporary responsibility for the distributor's retail division. McDowell has been employed at Ingram for seven years.
He will be working closely with another Ingram employee who will be flown from the US to run the division as well.
Scott said Bill's replacement would not be from the channel because the job is so big, that there is no one with enough experience to do it. Mackay was the first senior employee to leave Ingram since Scott joined the company three months ago from PPP.
