HDS claims rivals can't match the TagmaStore
Vendor says the AMS1000 will offer a great opportunity for channel partners to break into new markets
Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has claimed that its latest mid-range storage system will help VARs in ways that are not available through rival vendors, such as EMC, IBM and Hewlett-Packard (HP).
The vendor has claimed its TagmaStore AMS1000, launched last week, beats all “the main storage vendors” on functionality and features.
Roger Turner, EMEA director of storage systems at HDS, told CRN: “The channel partner now has a cost-effective way to offer consolidation to customers, with iSCSI, NAS and Fibre Channel all on the same device. Only NetApp [Network Appliance] has something similar to this.”
HDS has claimed that the release of the product was a great opportunity for its channel partners because it also offers SMEs business benefits, including easy installation and configuration with high-end functionality.
“This will take channel partners into new markets. This device can also be used in high-end storage applications, such as the divisions of large enterprises, so partners don’t need to carry such a wide range of storage products on their portfolio. This makes it easier for partners to manage vendors’ products,” Turner added.
However, Shaune Parsons, managing director of IBM VAR Computer World Wales, said: “I don’t think this announcement will excite the market. It’s the tools and software that come with it that really makes the difference, as well as the sales and services offered by the HDS reseller.”
HDS’s release of AMS1000 follows on from an announcement last year that it is to scrap relationships with up to 10 of its VARs (CRN, 4 July).
EMC, IBM and HP were unavailable for comment.
