Acorn eyes new sectors to build on early growth
Vendor unveils channel plans with the launch of widescreen TFT monitors and all-in-one desktop PC
Acorn is looking to cultivate its channel further by recruiting more VARs and entering two new markets to capitalise on its early growth spurt.
The vendor has today unveiled a range of widescreen TFT monitors and an all-in-one desktop PC. Following its re-emergence last Spring (CRN, 15 May), Acorn’s initial product portfolio comprised a notebook range aimed at the SME, education, retail and corporate sectors.
Speaking exclusively to CRN, Shahid Sultan, UK operations director at Acorn, said: “We have branched out into the monitor space with entry-level and premium products in both 19in and 22in sizes. All our monitors feature Vybrio – a technology we have developed that features a combination of an anti-glare coating and intelligent filters. Microtron – our all-in- one desktop PC – will appeal to firms that want to save space.
“Since our relaunch, we’ve seen sharp growth and are expanding product areas, as well as territories. We’re beginning another recruitment drive for resellers this week and we’re looking for at least another 100 to come on board.”
To help its growth, Acorn has recently taken on two new distributors: Ultimate, a Scottish distributor for that region, and Marcam Business Solutions for Ireland. Acorn also works with Global Comm as its UK distributor (CRN, 11 September).
Sultan also revealed that Acorn is planning to open a flagship store in London later in the year, followed by a second in Manchester.
Martin Kent, territory manager for the UK and northern Europe at monitor vendor HannsG, said: “Unless a monitor vendor is closely affiliated with a panel manufacturer and can be aggressive on price, or it has a niche offering, then it will be very hard to succeed in the monitor space.”
