HP ProCurve prepares to square up to Cisco

Networking vendor unveils two key security products for the upcoming battle with rival Cisco

Networking vendor HP ProCurve is to bring its channel up to speed after beefing up its security portfolio.

To tackle Cisco in the enterprise market, ProCurve has unveiled two key security products: the Network Immunity Manager and the Network Access Controller 800.

Jon Weatherall, ProCurve country manager for the UK and Ireland, told CRN: “We will be talking to five or six key resellers to make sure they have the skills to deploy these solutions correctly and decide how to expand from there. Some may have 60 per cent of the skills we require and we need to get them up to 100 per cent.”

Weatherall said training will start this week. The network immunity product will launch on 1 June and the access controller in the third quarter.

“This will make us more competitive against Cisco, which has parts of the puzzle, but not as a joined-up as our system,” claimed Weatherall.

Ashley Snelling, managing director of ProCurve Elite partner ADA Networks, said: “We’ve been attacking Cisco with ProCurve for the past two to three years and our story is getting stronger with each addition to the product suite.”
