Matrix takes charge of notebook batteries
Matrix Distributors is importing a US-made universal external notebook battery to the UK which is intended to appeal to retailers because they will only have to stock one battery brand.
The batteries are complemented by a range of 16 adaptors, which Matrix claims will connect the power packs to 90% of portable computers.
The USI brand external batteries come in two models. The high power pack lasts three to four hours and the standard pack for one to two hours.
The products are priced at u92.35 and u54.20 respectively, ex VAT, and dealers will make 30% margin on each unit.
Channel marketing manager Umesh Dhanji described the batteries as unique, offering laptop users a cost effective alternative to expensive original batteries. "The retailers can hold an assortment of adaptors which are relatively inexpensive and stock them according to demand." The adaptor plugs have an RRP of u42 ex VAT.
Another laptop line Matrix, has exclusively imported from USI is a set of in-car power chargers which plug into the cigarette lighter socket and allows the user to compute in the car whilst simultaneously charging the battery. These cover most notebooks and are priced at u50.38 ex VAT.
