Nortel adds more Building Blocks

Telephony vendor continues its attack on the SME market

Nortel has extended its SME product portfolio as the telephony vendor continues its SME channel offensive.

The vendor launched its SME Building Blocks programme earlier in the year, and has added switches, routers and updates.

Nortel’s latest offerings include its Business Ethernet Switch 100 Family, Business Secure Router 222, Business Access Point 120, the Business Element Manager and the Business Communications Manager 4.0.

Amanda Gidden, distribution director EMEA at Nortel, told CRN: “Resellers are getting a complete solution with voice, data, mobility and security, all on a common management platform.”

Gidden added that Nortel has been recruiting a mix of voice and data VARs since launching its Building Blocks programme.

“We have 30 VARs on the SME programme, but we want to double this figure,” she said. “We hope to have this done by the next quarter. We are quite selective [when recruiting] as we don’t want to be over distributed.”

Tom Fellowes, sales director at Nortel SME reseller Spitfire, said: “Nortel has been supportive and easy to work with. Before, Nortel’s data products were not positioned correctly for the SME market, but hopefully these products will change this.”
