Claims of Intel changing OEM rebates

Chip giant may offer same price to everyone

Resellers, integrators and distributors could be celebrating if a report in Digitimes is to be believed. The report claims that Intel will sell its microprocessors to its distributors and resellers at the same price it sells to its large OEMs.
If what the report claims is true, then vendors such as Dell and Hewlett-Packard would be given the same price for buying 100,000 CPUs as a distributor would for buying 10,000. A move such as this would stun the industry.
Intel wouldn't directly comment on the report, but Digitimes claims it has verified it with Taiwanese OEMs. The scheme is slated to start this September, the wire alleges.
It might make the smaller system integrators and the distributor happy, but Dell and HP are likely to put up a fight.
