Ericsson makes the upgrades

Vendor unveils enhanced MD110 and BusinessPhone telephone systems

Ericsson Enterprise is addressing the SME and corporate markets with the latest software upgrades for its MD110 and BusinessPhone telephone systems, which are now available in the UK.

The double launch sees the MD110 Convergence Communications System (CCS) introduced and the BusinessPhone PBX enhanced to meet the demands for mobile and converged products.

Fredric Boone, director of marketing at Ericsson Enterprise, claimed the upgrades are designed to meet new market demands with three new dimensions.

"It combines the mobility and convergence parts with application integration," he said.

The MD110 CCS is designed for businesses with more than 250 users and the BusinessPhone for the sub-250-user market. MD110 and BusinessPhones can be upgraded with this software.

"As well as approaching new customers this gives resellers a good opportunity to go back to existing customers with an enhanced product," Boone added.

Another addition to the MD110 sees it add branch office connectivity which "allows users to configure branch offices as part of the main system", according to Boone.

Systems integrators Logical and Damovo will buy direct, with distributor Nimans supplying other resellers.

Jeremy Keefe, UK sales director at Logical, which sells both product ranges, said Ericsson Enterprise is still seen as a voice vendor, but claimed the move makes it a true convergence player.

"The upgrades will allow Ericsson Enterprise and its partners to play in the bigger convergence market," he said.

"Although we sell Cisco we will continue to try to grow our Ericsson business because we see both firms playing in different markets. Ericsson can pick up voice and email messages via mobile telephones."
